13 Jaguar E-Type (page 13 of 25)

The most desirable Brit sports car of the 60s: not only spectacular looking, it also set new standards for performance and handling in the GT class, even if the claimed 150mph top speed was rather optimistic. Its tubular steel-framed chassis was supported by independent suspension and its long bonnet accommodated first a 265bhp 3.8-litre straight six, then a 4.2 and ultimately a V12. Oil crisis? What oil crisis? Beautiful in coupe or roadster form, the E-Type never proved itself in motorsport, but it made for a stunning road car. The last version, the 71-75 Series III, was heavy and underpowered, and it was never the most reliable sports car, but the E-Types aura has never faded.
