10 Ford Transit (page 10 of 25)

The 'backbone of Britain', as the ads put it. Since 1965, the Transit has been the van for workers in every industry, converted for a multitude of uses, carrying every kind of cargo. It was even a TV star in the 70s, squealing around in The Sweeney. The first European van to do a decent 70mph and offer anywhere near car-like handling, the Transit still outsells its rivals three-to-one, and the 5,000,000th was built in Southampton in 2004. Early models - built at Langley, near Heathrow - had a little V4 petrol engine; today's well equipped, front-wheel-drive Transits come with a wide choice of powerful, refined diesels.
