| Gallery: F1 in London |
| The momentum behind a bid to put a round of Formula One in central London has snowballed after last night's hugely successful F1 demonstration run in the city. Upwards of 500,000 spectators turned up to watch the likes of David Coulthard put his McLaren Mercedes through its paces against the unlikely backdrop of Buckingham Palace and Piccadilly Circus. London Mayor Ken Livingstone pledged to put all of his support behind a bid for a London GP, reported the London Evening Standard. "We have told Bernie Ecclestone (F1 supremo) we are very serious about this," said Livingstone. "Every hotel room would be full and every seat in every restaurant would be taken during a Grand Prix weekend. We will bust a gut to put on the best race in the world. If Monaco can do it, we can." It is estimated that up to two million tourists could be drawn to London for such an event. For the record, 4Car thinks it would be a terrific idea...
