Gallery: Wacky Rallies - Plymouth to Dakar
Hoggar Convoy | Plymouth to Dakar | Staples to Naples | Mongol Rally

Buying an old banger for a few pounds, fixing it up and driving it thousands of miles across inhospitable terrain sounds a bit daft. But since the inaugural Plymouth to Dakar Rally in 2003 this very different 'trip of a lifetime' has mushroomed into a veritable genre. Keen motorists, mechanics and those with a taste for adventure and a keen eye for the ridiculous have been signing up in their droves for all manner of wacky races.
