First launched in 1991, the GS-series is Lexus's contender in the BMW 5-Series/Mercedes E-Class/Audi A6/Jaguar S-Type sector. Its first two iterations have been very US-focussed, with an emphasis on comfort and luxury rather than driving pleasure, but this high-tech third-generation model has been developed with far more sporting aspirations. Rear-wheel drive, it comes with an all-new 3.0 V6 (245 bhp) or a revised version of the 4.3 V8 (279 bhp) petrol engine, and a hybrid petrol-electric model, to be called GS450h, will follow next year. Lexus GS (05- )
17-inch alloy wheels are standard on the GS300, 18-inchers on the GS430 and GS300 SE-L. The latter two also have a discreet rear spoiler. Nine body colours are available, including four fancily-named new shades: Caspian Sky, Mesa Red, Kalahari Sand and Athabasca Shade (no idea). That's in addition to the St Lucia Pearl, Palladio Silver, Astral Black, Boreal Green and Canterbury Blue already offered. We think this car's silver.
