Four-by-four: All Rangers have a standard limited-slip differential, which delivers maximum traction via the rear wheels. The four-wheel-drive models have a three-mode transmission - rear-wheel drive for normal road conditions, four-wheel drive high-ratio for demanding off-roading, and four-wheel drive low-ratio for getting through the muckiest and steepest bits. The electronic remote-free-wheel hubs (RFW) mean you can switch from two- to four-wheel drive at any speed, though the low-ratio gears can only be selected when stationary.
