Ferrari has revealed its replacement for the 360 Modena, the F430. It's an aluminium-constructed, mid-engined two-seater, with a compact, 90-degree V8 engine, though with some 483bhp, it's significantly more powerful than the 394bhp 360 Modena, as Ferrari tries to keep pace with the car's nearest rival, Lamborghini's 493bhp Gallardo.

| Suspended animation: Sensors to measure wheel movement, body movement and steering angle provide data for the adaptive dampers, which are similar to the 360's but use modified software. The standard brake discs use a new high-molybdenum iron, but the expensive carbon-ceramic discs, also by Brembo, are the system of choice for track days. Past durability issues seem to be over, as the brakes can cope with 350 laps of Fiorano at racing speeds before wearing out. Calipers can be red, yellow or silver. |
