Long-Term Test: Volvo C30: March report

Volvo C30 T5 SE Sport

Throughout the winter months I felt safe as houses in the C30 in whatever conditions I was driving in and, although I accept I may be looking at the car through rose-coloured spectacles, I absolutely love it.

In fact, I love it so much I found myself defending the car when a friend in the rear seat pointed out that the armrest heights are uneven. So what? I've travelled in the back several times and have never used both centre and outside armrests at once. Who rests both of their arms at the same time anyway?

It's not all perfect though. Here's a few things about that C30 that fit into the section marked: 'things that Make You Go Grrrr'.

Firstly, the lack of Bluetooth. The Communications Pack costs a whopping £2,150, so you would have thought full Bluetooth connectivity is included. No, fixing up your hands-free communication requires patience. First you have to take your Sim card out of your mobile phone and then slip it into a slot in the glovebox. Do this every time you get in (and out of) the car and you are starting to get bored as well as irritated.

You could bypass all this by asking your network to send you a duplicate Sim card but my service provider wants to charge me an extra £27 per month for the privilege. No thanks.

The good news is that from May onwards, the C30 will have Bluetooth built in if you opt for it.
