Our clear run on the way back - three-and-a-half hours home, thanks to better-planned navigation and the lack of traffic after midnight - was rather better and, by the time I parked the Auris up in the early hours of Monday morning, I was feeling much more enamoured of it.
It was a shame, then, that when I went back to retrieve it on Wednesday, I found that someone had bashed into it. The bottom end of my road - narrow, with a sharp ninety-degree curve - is notorious for damage to parked cars, what with large vans visiting a plumbing-supplies firm and general carelessness from other drivers.
So the Auris was the latest addition to the list of hit-and-run casualties. No note on the windscreen, no clues, just a scraped and dented front wing and wheel-arch.
It's going back to the Toyota garage for some TLC later this month. I hope I've got something as useful to drive in its absence: I can't do my next car boot sale in an Aygo...
