Now it all makes sense. Now I can see why Skoda offers the Roomster in the camo green that we chose and then immediately regretted.
It's a very frumpy colour that does nothing to flatter the unconventional shape of the Roomster, but its great strength is, it turns out, that it blends beautifully into the background when you go camping. While other people's black SUVs look inappropriately urban and their bright blue estates seem rather vulgar, the Skoda merges holistically with the trees and the tents.
I've somehow managed to fit two camping holidays into the last month and the Roomster has proved to be a fine bit of kit: tent, sleeping bags, tin opener, Roomster, amusing hat, insect repellent. It fits very neatly into that list, not least because everything fits into the Roomster.
We're not light travellers, but we still had just about enough space for everything we wanted to take, even though we left all three rear seats in the car. I wish, however, that we'd left the parcel shelf at home, because that just got in the way and kept threatening to break, without performing any useful function.
