A long queue of customers meant the Mini never needed to go down the special edition route to stir up interest. However, every Mini buyer was and still is faced with an utterly confusing number of option packages, which bundled together optional extras. So let's try and make a little bit of sense of it. Originally the One could only be specced up with the Salt pack. This offered silver interior trim, floor mats, rear passenger cargo nets, halogen front fog lamps, more interior lights, passenger seat height adjustment and a rev counter. Pepper has all that plus 15" alloys and chrome bumper inserts. The sporty Chilli had the Pepper ingredients plus part-leather upholstery, leather steering wheel and gear knob, sports seats, sports suspension and 'star' alloys, plus a rear spoiler. Cooper owners could also spec a white or black roof and wing mirrors at no extra cost and order white alloys. Further down the option list was a CD autochanger, full leather trim and trip computer. Meanwhile the Cooper S had its own version of the Chilli which brought air conditioning, xenon headlamps, halogen foglamps and 17" alloys.
