As is the way with long-termers based in the 4Car office, the S-Max has been passed around a bit, with my colleagues using it when they've needed to. It did a bit of a stint away for a few weeks recently and, after driving a few fairly dull cars, I was more than glad to get back in it again. To me it was like sitting down in front of my iMac at home after using PCs in internet cafes for a while: it works as it's supposed to; it's fun to use; and it has my settings programmed into it, so I know exactly where everything I want is at any one time.
You see, the S-Max has already become part of the family: my cargnostic wife asked a few times while it was away when it was coming back and six-year-old Daisy wanted to know where the 'big car with the DVD' was when we were faced with a two-hour journey in an inferior, DVD-less car.
Indeed, the DVD player is an invaluable feature of the S-Max: call us bad parents, but my wife and I love the fact that we can have an adult conversation in the car without interruption from the Harry Potter/Sound of Music/Oliver!-watching inhabitants of the back seat.
