There's no doubt that we've had plenty of fun with the Fiesta over the past five months, but like any long-term relationship, you have to expect a bumpy ride along the way.
When we took delivery of our electric blue, blinged-up Zetec S in November 2008 we were convinced, almost immediately, of its on-the-road manners. It's taken on the Suzuki Swift and the Honda Jazz, and won with flying colours.
We haven't been alone in our praise: many other motoring websites and magazines raved about this stunning supermini. The reality is, Ford has moved the game along in this sector, trumping the likes of the Renault Clio, Mazda 2 and Vauxhall Corsa - all decent, well-packaged cars.
For the past five months we have waxed lyrical about the qualities of this car - probably one of our best-ever long-termers - but lately it's lost some of its lustre.
We still don't have a problem with the car's handling capabilities. We have just enjoyed the Easter Bank Holiday with it and we still think it's like driving a small rally car. Turn into a corner with gusto and it'll do just as you ask. It's precise, grippy and if you do detect understeer, simply lift off and it'll tuck in nicely.
Almost zero body lean, a slick gearchange, a satisfying engine note and engaging steering feel add to the very rewarding driving experience.
So it's hunky dory then? Well, not quite.
