The earlier Citroen Synergie/806/Ulysse (1995-2003) are now available for banger money, but these revised models are looking good value too. They've not got the best record for reliability, so reject anything with a patchy service history. However, if you choose carefully, any one of this trio should make for attractive family transport.
Diesels are the preferred options, but the petrols are worth checking out - they come up much cheaper to buy, so unless you do a huge annual mileage they will be no more expensive to own long-term.
Despite never quite losing the sensation that you're driving a large van-like vehicle, the C8/807/Ulysse are all easy to drive and manoeuvre, with well-laid-out cabins and plenty of versatility. Bonus points for the excellent crash protection, too.
