The first-generation Zafira - a kind of Vectra MPV with seven very well-designed seats - is now pretty cheap (£2,500 can get you a decent one) and, now that initial lease-terms are coming to an end and more are around second-hand, the Mk2 launched in 2005 is looking good value too.
You won't find a cheap 240bhp VXR yet, or one of the higher-spec diesels for less than £10,000, but two-year old workaday petrol models with a reasonable specification are now £8,000-£9,000 (Life and Club spec have air conditioning, but not Expression). 1.6- and 1.8-litre petrol models are perfectly adequate.
The Zafira's rear seats fold completely flat and new features for this latest model include ceiling-mounted storage boxes. Crash protection also merits a five-star NCAP test score.
