Saab's design and engineering team were cagey about the company's plans for this car but we learned that a vehicle very much like this will replace the 9-3 Cabriolet in four to five years' time.
It will feature a less radical interior and a normal front-hinged boot in place of the pullout drawer, but the unique fold-down roof will remain and it should mark the most important innovation in convertible design since the Mercedes SLK revealed the folding hardtop in 1997.
When it does, the most interesting thing about a Saab will no longer be where you put its ignition key.
