Webasto - a long-established supplier of convertible roofs, sunroofs and other components to major manufacturers - is showing off a new convertible concept called the Webasto LiGHT.
The roof on this show car - created by students at the Instituto Europeo di Design (IED), Turin - is made using a new compound spray-moulding technique. It weighs just 13kg and folds down very neatly over the bootlid, with little impact on luggage space: it is nonetheless strong, soundproof and able to support a heated rear window.
The IED students created this roadster as a tribute to the Fiat 124 Spider of the 70s. They are also behind the Maserati Chicane compact 2+2 concept and a virtual proposal for a Maserati shooting brake, called Sfida.
