Alfa Romeo is revealing the production version of its 8C Competizione Spider, as first seen at the Pebble Beach concours d'elegance in 2005.
The Spider will share the 8C coupe's 4.7-litre V8 (450bhp) and six-speed sequential-shift gearbox. It's said to be good for 177mph and 0-60mph in less than four seconds.
The Spider gets a two-layer fabric roof, electrically controlled via a button in the dashboard. Its cabin is trimmed in high-class leather and its seats have carbonfibre frames to save weight: the whole thing weighs just 1500kg thanks to carbonfibre components. Specification includes carbon-ceramic Brembo brake discs, 20-inch wheels with 245/35 tyres up front and 285/35s to the rear, and sports-specific traction and stability control.
Production of just 500 is planned and all will be hand-built at the Maserati factory in Modena. Prices will start from around £140,000.
