Cadillac has announced that its CTS-V, the high-performance model in the latest CTS saloon range, is to deliver 550bhp.
Engineered as the all-American answer to the likes of the M3, it is a thorough development from the standard CTS and will showcase much of GM's latest technology and high-tech equipment.
The engine - the same engine as in the Corvette ZR-1 - is the new 6.2 V8, supercharged for that 550bhp and a torque peak of 550lb-ft and is nearly 35% more powerful than that of the earlier CTS-V.
A new automatic gearbox with paddle-shifts is an optional alternative to the six-speed manual: specification also includes magnetic ride control (a continuously-adaptive suspension system), race-derived traction control, and high-performance Brembo brakes with Michelin tyres, on 19" wheels.
Further details include 14-way adjustable Recaro front seats, suede-effect microfibre fabric for the steering wheel and seat inserts, 'obsidian' cabin trim details, a larger satin-finish grille with bigger air intakes, a raised bonnet to accommodate the supercharger, and different front and rear fascias.
On sale in the US towards the end of this gear, exports of the CTS-V to Europe, the Middle East and Asia are planned for the first time.
