Here's a compromise between the all-out 295bhp/300 lb ft Evo X and the mainstream Mitsubishi Lancer: the Lancer Ralliart. It gets a version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre, developing a still-strong 240bhp and 253 lb ft of torque, and it looks pretty damn good as well.
Mitsubishi's new dual-clutch SST automated manual gearbox - similar to the Volkswagen DSG - is fitted as standard in the US-market cars, along with the Evo's fulltime four-wheel-drive system and active central differential.
While the Evo rivals the 300bhp Subaru Impreza STi, the Ralliart is set to take on the 'standard' 225bhp WRX. It will go on sale in North America this summer, and it's also likely to come to Europe.
