The clue's in the name: General Motors is seriously considering making a two-door version of its new CTS saloon, and here's the prototype to test public and media reaction.
The basic recipe's the same, but with a wedge-shaped rear end, mid-mounted exhaust tailpipe, tweaked taillights, two-door layout and sportier, lower-set seats. This mean-looking show car's finished in black paint with a pale interior.
Design chief Ed Welburn says that the Coupe was drawn up by his team as an after-hours project once the saloon was signed off for production, and GM's management was obviously impressed with their effort. Production-wise, it's very feasible; Welburn hinted that it could use any of the existing engines in the CTS line-up (including, no doubt, the 550bhp V8 of the CTS-V saloon) and even an upcoming diesel unit.
