The i city car we've already driven. The i MiEV is the electric version, currently being perfected. And here, unveiled at Tokyo, is the fastback version of that, the i MiEV Sport concept car. Still with us?
The concept is a low-slug 2+2 coupe designed to have sportier handling. It's off to a good start thanks to the low-down positioning of the MiEV's weighty components: the motor that drives the rear wheels is below and behind the driver, the high-capacity lithium-ion battery is mounted under the floor and there are motors in the front wheels.
The resulting four-wheel drive is masterminded by Mitsubishi's S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) system, with active yaw and active stability control systems. The i MiEV has a range of 125 miles and a top speed of 112mph.
The overall structure is a light, rigid aluminium spaceframe and the interior is simple, using lots of bare metal and blue LED lighting.
