Land Rover has no new products on its Frankfurt stand, but has been flashing around a computer-generated image of a small, sporty SUV. This picture appears to show the Range Rover Sport's little brother, the much-anticipated 'Landie'.
This would fit in the range below the Freelander, giving Land Rover a rival for the Volkswagen Tiguan and Audi Q3.
Land Rover did announce one new development, however: it is fitting automatic stop-start fuel-saving technology to the Freelander in 2009. Diesel versions with manual transmission will receive the system first, and should benefit from a 10% improvement in fuel economy and 7% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions thanks to deactivation of the engine when the vehicle is idling.
Another new emissions-reducing measure is the introduction of a diesel particulate filter, optional in the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport TDV6 and TDV8 this autumn.
Further news from Land Rover includes a new bodykit option for the Discovery, available from spring 2008.
