Citroen C5 Airscape gallery
Squint a bit, and this is what the second-generation Citroen C5 will look like when it arrives next year to challenge the new Ford Mondeo, Renault Laguna and Vauxhall Vectra.
The C5 Airscape concept shown at Frankfurt has a folding carbon fibre roof and two doors, but the production C5 will be a four-door saloon, with an estate to follow. The Airscape's styling has elements drawn from current Citroens including the C4 Picasso and the C6, but the fully automatic roof is all new. Its textile lining makes it feel like a traditional cabriolet from the inside, but it has a built-in sunroof.
The four-seat concept is powered by a 2.7-litre biodiesel-compatible V6 fitted with Citroen's UrbanHybrid system, which switches the engine off when the car is stationary and can run ancillary equipment on energy captured during deceleration. It also showcases Citroen's new Snow Motion traction control system.
