Subaru is reviving the Justy supermini, but this time it's front-wheel-drive only, unlike the old all-wheel-drive model. Effectively a rebadged Daihatsu Sirion, added to the Subaru range to help bring down its average fuel economy in line with forthcoming European regulations, the new Justy will be offered in the UK in right-hand-drive form early next year.
The Justy will come with a super-economical three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine. Equipment will include front and side airbags, with optional full-length curtain airbags. In the UK it will have air conditioning, electric windows and a CD player, and will cost around £8,000, a little more than for the lesser-equipped entry-level Sirion 1.0.
In this form the Justy should return nearly 60mpg and qualify for a very low tax banding, but an ultra-economy version coming in under the 100g/km carbon dioxide emissions mark is thought to be on the way.
