The new-generation Accord goes on sale in Europe in the middle of next year, and Honda's previewing it here at Frankfurt in estate form. The Tourer Concept shows the new Accord's increased width, lower stance and sleeker shape, and hints at its improved handling and more spacious cabin.
Honda promises 'innovative chassis technology', which may include the option of the SH-AWD system fitted in the latest Legend saloon. Super Handling All-Wheel Drive uses advanced electronics to split the torque between the front and rear axles and between the rear wheels.
Engines for the new line-up are 2.0- and 2.4-litre petrol units and Honda's excellent 2.2-litre diesel. All will receive a power boost, with both emissions and fuel economy improved. The diesel engine will more than meet the requirements for the new EU5 emissions standards, and incorporate more efficient exhaust gas recirculation, a particulate filter and updated fuel injection technology.
Both the new-generation saloon and the Tourer will be revealed in production form at the Geneva Motor Show next spring.
