9: Suzuki SX4/Fiat Sedici (2006-)
Suzuki has developed the SX4 from its award-winning Swift supermini, and also makes it for Fiat to sell as the Sedici. Thanks to Suzuki's experience in building 4x4s it's a reasonably capable little thing, if not an all-out off-roader like the Jimny. Part-time selectable four-wheel drive with diff lock gives it extra grip, and it's easy and amusing to drive, with a well laid-out cabin. Two-wheel-drive versions of the SX4 are also available.
The Fiat's the cuter looking of the two, but Suzuki's dealers have a better reputation for aftersales care and support. Either way, both SX4 and Sedici are well built if a little cheaply finished inside and should be very dependable. Four-wheel-drive motoring doesn't get much cheaper or user-friendly than this.
