Forget about hybrids, this is the current pinnacle of the motoring zeitgeist.
The community feel, the smart cards, the satellite activation, the child-sized carbon footprint - it's the embodiment of the earth-friendly, neighbour-loving, tech-rich world that the media is always talking about. You imagine Grand Designs' Kevin McCloud will be next in the Golf.
Of course, it all amounts to a hill of beans if there isn't a car within walking distance, but there's a high chance it won't stay that way, especially now rural car clubs are starting to gain a toehold.
Just don't join to improve your social life. If you do meet any members, you've brought the car back late and are facing a £25 fine.
