TomTom Go 910
The TomTom Go range is widely regarded as the best sat nav unit on the market at the moment.
It's won its position through doing all the things that a sat nav unit is meant to do - and doing them well. So the navigation software works; the routes take you to the right place (not to be taken for granted with all sat nav systems); and the 3-D map graphics and display are clear. Plus there are the added bonuses of being able to store music on the 20Gb hard drive and manage phone calls using Bluetooth.
Meanwhile, if you're looking for a more budget version, there's always the TomTom One. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive Go 910, and the maps only cover the UK, but the navigational software is just as effective.
So if you're trying to avoid visiting the family at Christmas, don't buy a TomTom - it'll get you there every time.
