The Dukes of Hazzard Dodge Charger

The 'General Lee' was a rather brutal film star. It was painted bright orange, had an 01 racing number on the side and the doors didn't open. Bo and Luke Duke had to get in through the window.

The pair ragged it to death: many General Lees were used and many ended up on the scrapheap, unable to take the pummelling meted out by stuntmen in numerous chase sequences.

Still, actor John Schneider, who played Bo, owned a 1967 Charger not used in the original show but a model carrying the signatures of the cast. This car featured in the movie Dukes Go To Hollywood and he also raced it in the Silver State Classic Challenge. Then he decided to cash in and sell it. On eBay...

Schneider should have known better. The auction, in May 2007, proved to be a farce - Schneider's car attracted a winning bid of almost $10 million, but it proved to be a hoax. The bidder, known as William Fisher, did not respond to emails or answer his phone after 'securing' Schneider's General Lee.

It eventually went on sale again in 2008 and was sold for a slightly more modest $450,000.
