Abarth 850 TC
4. Abarth 850 TC
Successor to the 750, the 850 TC was based on the Fiat 600 of the 1960s, with engine upped to 847cc. Capable of 88mph, the TC (Turismo Competizione) won international races at circuits including the Nurburgring, and European touring car championships - by now, Abarth was getting cash rewards from Fiat for each win - and thus in-house production was upped to meet the new regulations for racing homologation.
Abarth moved to new, larger premises in Corso Marche, which also put it closer to Fiat's HQ.
TC kits sold like hot cakes, with items including new camshafts and crankshafts, a Solex carb, lighter pistons and new exhaust system - and further options included Abarth badges, wheels, and other Abarth-branded trim.
