What is PDK?
The Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, or PDK, is an entirely new seven-speed semi-automatic transmission system developed by the German sports car brand: previously it used the Tiptronic S system.
It's available as an optional extra for £2,338 on the latest Carrera 2 and the Carrera 4 models, but it's not new to the automotive world and is similar to technology used by VW, Audi, BMW and Ford.
Porsche does, in fact, have a long history with it. The system was first introduced by Porsche in the 1980s in its Group C 956 and 962 racing cars so it's fair to say that the company has longer experience with dual clutch in high performance sports cars than any other manufacturer.
