For: Evo-style looks; clever seats; spacious and comfy.
Against: Not very quick.
The large Mitsubishi Grandis has more than a touch of the Evolution IX and X in its styling, and while it's not quite as hardcore a sports machine, it's still pretty neat-handling. Its agility is aided by the fact that it's not one of the larger people-carriers, though it can still (just about) seat seven in comfort.
The Grandis is well thought-out; its three rows of seats fold and split in multiple combinations, equipment levels are high and the seats supportive. We'd take the Volkswagen-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine over Mitsubishi's own 2.4 petrol, though only the petrol comes with the option of an automatic gearbox.
