Often - unfairly - overlooked, the Mazda 5 is a smart-looking mid-size MPV with five proper seats and two smaller chairs for kids or occasional use. Recent updates have made it more fuel- and tax-efficient, and the performance of the 2.0-litre petrol model has been much-enhanced by a new six-speed manual gearbox.
The 2008 upgrade has also yielded a better-quality cabin and improved sound-proofing, and new options include power-sliding rear doors. The 5 is classy, comfortable and good value for money; even entry-level models are well-equipped, and there's the option of Sport specification with all the trimmings.
