The latest in a fun series of chase-based racers, Redline Rumble 3 is a small but intense game in which each of its five levels offers a different challenge.
The macho tone is set by a muscular Stig-like character dressed in a black and gold outfit. It's not pleasant, but you just have to deal with it. When he leaps onto his motorbike you'll have his ludicrous shiny backside winking at you for the entire race. Not good.
It's not just motorbikes, though. Each level brings a new vehicle. You can race through an LA-style storm drain grabbing gold bullion in a Mini, bother drug runners on a motorway in a police chopper or toss police cars around with your, um, lorry platform thingy. No, we didn't quite grasp that one either.
Some things remain constant through the game. Your damage meter in the top left lets you know how close you are to having your wheels hit you in the face. Power-ups and targets are indicated by coloured arrows - all fairly self-explanatory. And hitting anything not marked with an arrow is a rubbish idea.
There's nothing too challenging in Redline Rumble 3. It's mainly about achieving and submitting your high scores, although two things will stand in your way. First, the controls are jittery and positioning your vehicle on your chosen part of the road is an inexact science. Second, the Dodgems level is trickier than the others and really it's not much fun, so it's a good job that levels can be skipped.
Redline Rumble 3 is worth a good few plays. No real physics, no faffing around selecting a car, just easy-to-grasp challenges with a sense of humour. It's the best of the series so far.
