The quirky one: Smart Fortwo
Price: £6,900
Aesthetically speaking this is the perfect city car.
The Smart is already a design classic with its compact dimensions and generous space for two, but there are plenty of obstacles to stop it winning your affections.
First off, it's for two. With a new lengthened wheelbase for better handling, we still wish the Smart was for four.
Next up there's the idiosyncratic gearbox. It's still an improvement on the horrid jerky 'box in the first-generation Smart, but still takes some getting used to.
It's not that much fun to drive, but who can complain with a 60.1mpg average and a saintly 112 g/km of CO2?
