First things first: TrackMania Nations Forever doesn't cost a penny. It's as free as the air you breathe, and can be downloaded at www.trackmania.com. That's the good news, but the better news is that it's excellent.

TrackMania Nations has been around since 2006 and has been hugely popular due to a killer combination of simplicity and variety. This new 'Forever' version expands it significantly with additional content, but doesn't mess with the formula.

Fundamental to the TrackMania philosophy is that all races are against the clock - collisions are impossible since other cars on the track appear as ghosts. This doesn't mean you go it alone - you can share the track with other players on your local network or indeed anyone from the internet. You can even chat to them as you play. In the solo mode you can race your own ghost from previous attempts, but don't try chatting to him or the shadowy government agencies that track your every internet move will think you're, you know, a looney.
