6. Renault Megane Sport Tourer
Much more elegant-looking than the bulbous, bum-heavy Megane hatchback, the Sport Tourer is one of Renault's better-looking family-sized cars.

It's not one of the roomiest cargo-carriers around, with its sharply-raked tailgate, but it is long and it offers plenty of rear legroom. It's also a sharper drive than the hatch, with its stiffer suspension and longer wheelbase.
Engines in the range include the 225bhp 2.0-litre turbo, but for basic family duties, the 1.4 and 1.6 petrols are fine.
The newer 1.5dCi diesels are excellent too, and very economical, but these models are the most expensive.
