What was the starting point for the LRX?
The LRX demonstrates the evolution of Land Rover's design. We're not using a new design language, but we're evolving it in a bold way. Land Rover was originally about functionality and the way Land Rovers look comes from their functionality.
With the LRX we've focused on four components: a fresh approach to functionality, its premium quality, desirability and sustainability.
In terms of functionality, we've looked at things like stowage and seating, and worked on more innovative solutions and precision, tailoring its features to our customers' lifestyles.
We also think that the LRX oozes premiumness, designing a high-end product in a compact package. We worked to improve the fit and finish, maintaining Land Rover's perceived quality.
The LRX's desirability comes from its distinctive profile, which is unmistakably Land Rover. It still has that visual robustness you associate with the brand, but it's compact.
The sustainability comes from Land Rover's developing technology. From a design perspective, the car is lighter thanks to exposed seat structures and instrument panel; we're using materials such as recycled plastic bottles for the door inserts and headliner; and we've used a tanning process on the leather that uses fewer toxins.
