3. Chrysler 300C (2005-)

The cheapest 300C we've seen advertised so far is £14,000, but it won't be long before prices drop to the £10K mark: during 2008, many will be coming out of three-year lease deals and there'll be more around second-hand.

The diesels will hold their value better, especially in Touring estate form - which will make the petrol saloons look like real bargains. The diesel's the most sensible option of course, but the 5.7 V8 Hemi is a real temptation...

Under its all-American surface, most of the 300C is Mercedes E-Class-derived, which can only be a good thing. But what an American surface: this bluff-fronted Chrysler looks like nothing else on Britain's roads (except, from certain angles, a Bentley) and it looks far more expensive than it actually is, new or used.
