8. Peugeot 206 (1999-2007)
Peugeot's 206 has consistently been a best-seller among private customers (as opposed to large-scale company car and hire fleets).
Consequently, there are now loads of second-hand models to choose from in all manner of engine/trim combinations - and they're getting even cheaper since the recent launch of the 207.

The 206 hasn't been particularly reliable, but problems should now have been ironed out under warranty - just be aware of difficult-to-diagnose electronic and electrical glitches.
Opt for the 1.4, a good all-rounder, or one of the diesels. The later 1.4 HDI is the best; the old 1.9's a bit crude and noisy in comparison. Rapier and XSi models have a sporty feel for a near-GTi effect.
