7. Nissan Micra (2003-)
This iteration of the Micra rather damaged Nissan's hitherto excellent record for reliability, but once the initial problems with its complex electronic systems (shared with its platform-mate, the Renault Clio) were sorted, it was much-improved. Most cars should have been debugged by now.

Gremlins aside, this Micra has much to commend it: a super-roomy cabin with attractive upholstery and trim options, and a comfortable ride. Most versions will come with high specifications, including all the latest gadgets and accessories - sat nav, parking sensors, auto wipers - as many were bought by private buyers who ticked all the options boxes.
There's no point paying for the 1.4 petrol when the 1.2 is quick enough, but the 1.5 diesels (a Renault engine) really are ultra-economical and worth spending a bit extra to get.
