6. Vauxhall Corsa (2000-06)
Like the Fiesta, this mass-market supermini comes in a multitude of engine/trim combinations, is cheap to buy (especially privately), and a doddle to maintain thanks to cheap parts - available at any aftermarket retailer or fast-fit place - and servicing, as anyone can fix them.
Vauxhall Corsa
In terms of its driving, it has the edge on its Ford rival and it's a bit dull to look at. On the upside, its low running costs make it a solid, value-for-money buy.
The tough and durable Corsa was mechanically little changed until 2006, so don't pay too much for the version tarted up in 2003.
