4. Mini Convertible (2004-)
Yes, we know it's far smaller than any of the others listed, but it is a four-seater - just about. If you only need those rear seats very occasionally, or in the event of emergency lift-giving, then the Mini has to be one of the most desirable convertibles around of any size. And it's incredible to think that people into cute little retro-look drop-tops pay silly money for the ancient, slow and uncomfortable Nissan Figaro - an early Micra with a pretty body - when they could now have a nearly-new Mini for a similar price.
The Mini's not particularly quick (unless you go for the 210bhp John Cooper Works-tuned models, still highly-priced) but it is great fun to drive, despite its weight. The Cooper S, with its large 17" alloy wheels and unforgiving run-flat tyres, is stiffly sprung and hard-riding, but apart from that, the Mini is relatively refined and comfortable. It's a solid, safe little car and it would be hard to dislike it.
