Rover 75 Tourer

The 75 - and its sportier-styled, stiffer-sprung sister model, the MG ZT - was the best of the last Rovers. Developed under BMW's ownership of Rover, and one of the better-built models from Longbridge, it is solid, comfortable and genteel - exactly as a Rover should be. Well, apart from the bonkers RWD V8, but that's not a budget option...

One for those that like old-fashioned instruments, stately progress and plenty of wood 'n' leather trim, the 75 Tourer is firmly in the old-school shooting brake camp. It's not much of a load-carrier, as its rear seats don't fold full flat or tumble, but it'll hold a couple of large dogs, golf clubs and country-sports equipment.
