Renault Laguna Sport Tourer

The Laguna Sport Tourer is one of the fashionable breed of 'sport wagons' - estates designed more for their purposeful looks than for outright load-carrying ability. Still, it's a better bet than the Alfa 156 Sportwagon (which has a smaller boot than its saloon counterpart) and is at least reasonably useful as a family holdall.

The Laguna is a long way from being sporty to drive, but where it really scores is the comfort factor: we love its armchair-like, well-shaped front seats, in particular, and it's well-equipped, too.

There's also the safety angle; it achieved a five star Euro NCAP crash test score.
