In December 2002 Audi unveiled the first version of its TT Coupe sports car to feature a 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine and completely new transmission technology. Some said that the TT had finally got the engine it deserved.
The combination of the well-proven and high-torque 3.2-litre engine developing 250 bhp, linked to an innovative sports gearbox and powering all four wheels created a brand new TT experience. The revolutionary Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) is designed to combine all the benefits of a conventional six-speed manual gearbox with the qualities of a modern automatic. It operates in a similar way to Ferrari's F1 system, supporting both automatic and manual shifting with the aid of the gear lever or shift paddles behind the steering wheel. The driver is supposed to benefit from enormous agility, driving enjoyment and economy, plus convenient operation and smooth acceleration with, most importantly, uninterrupted traction.
