Nothing is more embarrassing for a manufacturer, or more frustrating for a buyer, than a car with a very public reliability problem. Spectacularly earned reputations for trouble can send rogue designs to an early grave, although sometimes it is surprising how long a manufacturer will limp on with a troublesome clunker.
