| A second-hand Lagonda can be worth from £6k to £30k |
 |
In UK prices for S2 and 3 range from say 6K to 30K: a 1980 example went for £6,000 on eBay recently, while the London dealer Nick Mee has one currently for 33K. The S4s range from 20K-50K for dreaming dealers, but usually make £25-35,000 in reality. S4's can still suffer with corrosion and bubbling though.
It's a misfit that can come for bargain money. I know of an MOT'd Lagonda sold for £3,000; I've seen what looked like a perfectly good one being broken for bits because the spares were worth more than the complete car. You'd need upwards of £12,000 for something worthwhile - but when Aston DB5s are making £200,000 it puts things in perspective.
Today it's a car that raises knowing smirks among the cognoscenti; but what looks bizarre to modern tastes seemed, just for a fleeting moment at least, fabulously futuristic. Fans all over the world - many no doubt the dreaming schoolkids who drooled over the car 30 years ago - will be celebrate 'the wedge' this year. Some might even make it out to the lavish celebration being organised by Swiss enthusiasts in August (see www.lagondav82006.org).
Perhaps I'll see you there.
Thanks to Ian Grange of Southern Car Sales (0161 456 3836) for loan of the Camargue and Roger Ivett for bringing the Lagonda.
