| A 380bhp version never made it into production |

In answer to such criticisms, Aston showed, in 1980, a turbo prototype with 380bhp and 500lbs of torque. It never made production.
As speed builds in the Lagonda, the slight impression of fussiness in terms of engine noise and ride disappears, becoming refined and limo-like.
Cruising fast, the car feels supple in its ride, its demeanour effortless and nicely high geared.
The Lagonda invites you to push it through corners. The steering, with its small chunky single spoke steering wheel, is high geared. There is very little roll and it corners in a state of modest understeer, always feeling stable. Pound for pound it feels more impressive than the Aston V8 with a soft ride and a feeling of agility for its size.
Today, the flamboyance of the Lagonda works against it, in a market that wants its English luxury cars discreet and tasteful.
The reputation for poor quality seems to be true, however.
